Aligning Talent Strategy with Brand Evolution

“At Commence, our people power everything we do. As we continue to grow, we’re rethinking what it means to build a purpose-driven team from the inside out. Today, our Talent Acquisition Manager, Bianca M’Crystal, shares how the Commence rebrand has helped sharpen not just our mission, but the way we attract, hire, and retain great people.”

When we launched the Commence brand, it wasn’t just about a sharper logo or updated color palette. It was our moment to get loud about who we are and where we’re going. More than anything, it gave us clarity, especially when it comes to talent.
As someone who lives and breathes hiring, culture, and team building, one line in our brand messaging hit home: Powered by People with Purpose.
It’s not just a tagline. It’s a mindset. It’s what drives us. And it’s reshaping how we attract, hire, and support the people who make Commence what it is today and where we’re headed.
Branding Shapes Our Talent Strategy
Brand drives perception, both outside and inside. If we say people are at the center of our brand, we need to reflect that at every stage of the talent lifecycle: not just in what we post, but in how we lead, how we hire, and how we build teams.
The rebrand gave us permission to stop playing it safe and fully lean into who we are: mission-first, people-powered, and relentlessly focused on impact.
We’re not here to check boxes. We’re here to find people who are curious, mission-driven, and ready to solve real problems in healthcare, not just talk about them. We’re here to find people who value collaboration over ego and outcomes over optics.
This shift shows up everywhere. From the way we write job postings to how we assess candidates and define what “great” looks like in a role. We’re not growing just to scale. We’re growing deliberately by bringing in people who align with our mission, our culture, and where we’re going.
Reimagining the Hiring Process
The new brand gave us a reset. We took a close look at the kind of talent we want to bring in and how we bring them in.
We started by rewriting our job descriptions to spotlight the mission, not just the must-haves. We stripped away the jargon and focused on the real problems candidates will help solve. Our interview loops now focus on the traits that matter most here: curiosity, impact, and care. We ask scenario-based questions that show us how someone thinks, collaborates, and leads, not just how they check technical boxes.
We’ve redefined what we prioritize. We’re no longer defaulting to years of experience or specific tools. Instead, we’re asking-
- Will this person elevate the team?
- Will they challenge us in the right way?
- Are they a culture add, not just a culture fit?
- Do they bring a new perspective while aligning with what we stand for?
And we’re going even further. We’re making more space for recognition, feedback, and growth, so people feel anchored, heard, and empowered to thrive.
The Power of the Right People
Since the rebrand, we can see how teams started rallying around tough challenges. In how we show up for each other. In how ideas rise based on merit, not title. And in the way new hires light up when they realize they get to make an actual difference here.
A strong brand helps you to be noticed. A strong culture helps people stay.
We know that building the right team isn’t just about attracting talent; it’s about retaining and growing with the right people. People who believe in our mission, grow with us, and push us forward. That’s where the magic happens.
“Powered by People with Purpose” is the thread that ties our mission, our teams, and our decisions together. It’s embedded in everything. From how we show up in the market, to how we lead through change, it reminds us: what we’re building only works if we bring in the right people and create space for them to thrive.
Evolve & Adapt
The rebrand wasn’t a finish line. It was a starting point, a catalyst for how we think about growth, culture, and hiring with intention.
We’re continuing to evolve our talent strategy with the same vision that shaped the brand itself. That means scaling thoughtfully, investing in people who share our values, and strengthening our culture as we grow.
If you’re someone who leads with purpose, thrives in the messy middle, and wants to help shape what’s next… we’d love to meet you.
